Why Build An MRT For Kuala Lumpur?

After just enduring a two-and-a-half hour ordeal in what’s usually a 45 minute drive trying to get home tonight, through snarling traffic, heavy rain, and a closed SMART tunnel, I’m a convert.

How much is it? RM50 billion all in? Cheap for the price. When do they start?

  1. They should hv done it 10 years ago. Why build so many highways when they could build LRTs and MRTs? The summation of all the costs of highways might have been able to fund rail projects I suppose.

  2. I think back then there was this conscious desire to help the local auto industry (read: Proton). With TDM no longer in charge, there's obviously less political will behind a car-centric industrial and transportation strategy.
